This large and important work provides a carefully researched and lavishly illustrated survey of furniture at the two celebrated country house museums maintained by the Leeds City Council. The main strength of the collection is elite English 18th century furniture, much of which was commissioned for great houses now destroyed. The last complete catalogue of a public collection of English furniture was Percy Macquoid's volume on the Lady Lever Art Gallery which appeared in 1928.
