Rusty Goe started dealing in rare coins in 1981. He married his wife Marie in 1983. During the 1980s, Rusty worked for two prestigious numismatic firms. In 1990, Rusty and Marie purchased Las Vegas Rare Coin Gallery. The Goes closed their store in Las Vegas in 2001 at which time Rusty fulfilled a longtime ambition by opening a new store in Reno, Nevada called Southgate Coins. Business quickly eclipsed that of the most successful years in Las Vegas as the Goes added a website as well as an expansive showroom to their operation. While in Reno, Rusty fulfilled another long-term goal when he published The Mint on Carson Street, a "book about the Carson City Mint and the many fascinating coins produced there. Two of the most prestigious organizations in the field of coin collecting, the Professional Numismatists Guild and the Numismatic Literary Guild honored Rusty by presenting him with Book of the Year awards in 2004 for The Mint on Carson Street." Rusty Goe has written numerous articles that have appeared in such publications as The Coin Dealer Newsletter" and Curry's Chronicle." He is the president and founder of the Carson City Coin Collectors of America and has lectured on many occasions at such venues as the Nevada State Museum, the monthly meetings of the Lions Club and the Carson City Historical Society.
