The Alamo is symbolic of patriotic sacrifice. During the Texas Revolution, 189 defenders and nearly two dozen noncombatants tried to hold out against General Santa Anna and his army. This alphabet book tells the story of the tragic defeat that would later inspire victory.

William R. Chemerka is an award-winning educator, writer, lecturer, historical interpreter, and actor. He established the Alamo Society in 1986 and is the publisher and editor of the Alamo Journal. He has been an on-camera consultant for several History Channel productions about his favorite topic in American history. Chemerka lives in New Jersey.

Wade Dillon is a professional illustrator and tour guide at the Alamo. He participates in reenactments of the Texas Revolution and has appeared in historical television productions. He lives in San Antonio, Texas. Chemerka and Dillon also collaborated on Davy Crockett from A to Z.
