About the author

Dr. Leslee Katrina Michelsen is the Head of the Curatorial and Research Department, and the Curator of Ceramics and Stucco, at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha, Qatar. She completed her Ph.D. in Art History (with a concentration in Islamic Art History and Archaeology) from the University of Pennsylvania.An art historian as well as an archaeologist, and has excavated in Turkey, Qatar, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan and Afghanistan, where she also consulted on a number of Islamic art, archaeology and conservation projects as a volunteer with the Turquoise Mountain Institute in Kabul in 2006. She has been the Finds Supervisor and Assistant Co-Director of the Ancient Merv Project through University College London since 2008.
