About This Item
London: Boot & Son Ltd , c. 1905. Lithographed map, 28.5 x 44 cm, engraved by W.E. Soar, printed in red and black, blank verso, tabbed for insertion in a guide book, old folds. The District Railway was one of the earliest underground lines: the stretch of track from South Kensington to Westminster was opened in 1868. District Railway routes are overprinted in red on this road and rail map of central London and inner suburbs. The Mill Hill Park (Acton) to Hounslow Barracks branch, shown here as part of the District railway, was taken over from the Metropolitan Railway and electrified between 1903 and 1905.
