About This Item

New York: The Viking Press, 1954. First Edition. . Hardcover. Near Fine/About Very Good. Waer's debut mystery-thriller features Jim Fowler, an honest man in the somewhat dubious profession of gambling casino manager. Fowler accepts a position at a Mexico City casino and almost immediately finds that honesty tested by a bewitched roulette wheel; assorted beautiful women, most far from innocent or honest; an international crime ring; and a pair of murders. First Printing, First Edition. About 5 3/4 x 8 inches, 241 pages quarter bound in orange cloth over green paper-covered boards. Front cover has black graphic design denoting a roulette wheel, black lettering on spine. DJ's front panel repeats the cover graphic in lower right corner in black, white, green & orange; title and author in white. Back panel has b & w photo of author and brief bio. Boards and text are complete, clean and unmarked; binding tight and square. Not remaindered, not ex-library. DJ shows wear along edges, at corners and spine ends. There is an inch-long closed tear at bottom edge of front panel and 3/4-inch tear along fold between front panel and spine, o/w graphic elements undamaged, colors unfaded. Not price-clipped. Collectable copy for anyone who likes gambling in their mysteries.
