[Likely Philadelphia]. July 31, 1781. ADS. 3½ x 7¾ inches. Fine condition.

Manuscript receipt acknowledging receiving 30 pounds, autographed by this American lawyer and patriot. Princeton native Jonathan Dickinson Sergeant (1746 -1793), attended Princeton, represented New Jersey in the Second Continental Congress in 1776 and 1777. Sergeant served as attorney general for Pennsylvania. He opened his law practice in Philadelphia in 1780, the year before this receipt.
