1892. Original manuscript. Very Good. 2pp, octavo, written in sepia ink in a readable hand. The agreement between Henry Chattillon, agent for W.H. Williams of Denver, and W.A. Maxfield, provides that "parties of the second part will sink a Shaft 5 ft by 8 ft in the clear upon the Bestie lode mining claim situate in Cripple Creek mining district El Paso Co. Colorado commencing at the bottom of the 25 ft Shaft already sunk on said Bestie Claim, 25 ft for $12.00 twelve dollars per foot...." Details when payment shall be made, "the shaft to be properly timbered where necessary ... the work to be done to the satisfaction of Henry Chattillon...." Signed by W.A. Maxfield, C.H. McCormick, Henry Chatillon, and Pat Leucey. Two integral pages, 8" x 5" The Cripple Creek Mining District was only about a year old when this agreement was penned, documenting the mad scramble for rich prospects in this booming, new Gold Camp.

Cripple Creek, Colorado: Miners' Protective Assn, 1915. Original document. Very Good. Printed form, accomplished by hand. Datelined Cripple Creek, Colo., June 29 1915. W. Forest Hodgin, age 21, unmarried, born in Indiana and residing at Welty Block, Cripple Creek, states his occupation as Mill Man. He has had 4 months experience with Ray Cons Copper Co. in charge of cleaning the plant. Asked whether he is now or has ever been a member of the Western Federation of Miners, W. Forest answers "No." Nor does he belong to any other labor organization. How long in this District? 4 days. As a reference, he names W.H. Doyier of Canon City, Ok. He declares that he is "in sympathy with the objects and purposes of the Miners' Protective Association [and] will abide by and observe the Constitution...and By-Laws as may be prescribed by its Executive Committee, and signs his declaration as W.
