About This Item

A 1st bilingual ed. very good- paperback (flaps), minor signs of wear on cov. as in image, text/block tight clean, FON. 40 col. photos of costumes + col. photos inside flaps. 94p. 30x23cm. 500gr. It is quite unusual for a theater to present its wardrobe costumes in a book. Costumes - like sets - are designed and built to serve a performance, so the viewer sees them as an integral part of the play. On their own they don't have much to say, because they were made only for the stage and not to be worn outside of it. This perception also prevailed in our own theater in its 47 years of history which are now completed. We were satisfied with the fact that the spectators had the opportunity to enjoy them in the 200 performances that we give every year, and even enlivened in the most charming way: with the dances and music that suit each one... Today we come, albeit belatedly, to remedy this omission by presenting costumes on their own, without their dances and music. Thus the reader will be enabled to notice so many remarkable details, which our theatre-goers cannot do, with the distance that separates them from the stage and the movement of the dancers. By publishing these photos, we symbolically make up for the lack of an exhibition space where we could show the visitor even a small part of a huge collection: 2,000 complete costumes plus their individual parts, jewelry, accessories, etc. (from the foreword)
