About This Item
Milano: Skira, 2009. Turin, Triennale 2, 5 November 2008 - 1 February 2009. Edited by Daniel Birnbaum. English text. Milano, 2009; paperback, pp. 480, 300 col. ill., cm 15,5x21. 50 Moons of Saturn is the catalog of the exhibition curated by Daniel Birnbaum for T2, the second Torino Triennale. It brings together works by fifty young international artists and presents two special projects by Paul Chan and Olafur Eliasson. "The Saturnine mind is gloomy and depressed, yet inspired and radiant; passive and fundamentally negative, yet rebellious and magnificently productive. Traditionally linked to the artist's temperament, melancholy is the state of mind of inspiration" (Daniel Birnbaum). Key Sales Information - The catalogue presents the most significant contemporary art being created in today's world. - It includes fifty artists from across the globe who work in all disciplines: Jennifer Bornstein, Matthew Brannon, Annika von Hausswolff, Koo Jeong-A, Diego Perrone, Tomas Saraceno, Wilhelm Sasnal, Donald Urquhart, among the others. - Two artists have created larger new works for this exhibition: Olafur Eliasson (he installed The Weather Project some years ago at Tate Modern, London) and Paul Chan (his recent solo exhibitions have been presented at the New Museum, New York in 2008). Author Born in Stockholm in 1963, Daniel Birnbaum has been the curator of institutions and exhibitions at an international level, and has since 2001 been Rector of the Staedelschule international art academy in Frankfurt. It is the Director of the Visual Arts Sector of La Biennale di Venezia 2009, with specific responsibility as curator of the 53rd International Art Exhibition.
