Front and rear covers show shelf wear; edges show heavy wear; cardboard is exposed at the corners; wear to head and tail of spine. Faint residue from price sticker removal at top right front corner. The illustrations on the front endpapers progress from small hats to large hats (progression reversed on rear endpapers), indicating it's not the 1st printing. Child's period bookplate at bottom of ffep, with child's name in black crayon, with some of the black crayon transferring to the opposite endpaper. Text block is solidly sewn and firmly attached to boards.
