Paris: Charpentier et Fasquelle. Eugene Fasquelle, 1908. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good. With 125 marginal illustrations ("croquis marginaux") after pen and wash drawings by Pierre Bonnard. XX, 416 pp. Small 4to. Bound in red morroco by Esther Founes, with lettering in silver on blue ground with gilt ruled decoration on the upper cover, silvered paper end-papers followed by marbled endpapers. Original wrappers with front cover illustrated by Pierre Bonnard bound in, uncut. Front cover hinge professionally repaired, a little off=setting of the silvered paper. Morroco edged slip-case,a little rubbed. Number 148/ 200 numbered copies on velin d'Arches of a total limited edition of 225 with the marginal drawings exclusively published in this edition. The first edition of 1907 was not illustrated. Mirbeau's account of his journey through Belgium, Holland, and the Rheinland with a car licensed "628-E8".
