83rd ENGINEER CONSTRUCTION BATTALION early 1950s PHOTO ALBUM

This album appears to have been compiled by someone who was a member of the 83rd Engineer Depot Company or the 83rd Engineer Construction Battalion stationed in Toul, France and later Bremerhaven, Germany from 1951-1953. The 14 x 11" album is black, string-bound, with "Photograph Album" on the front in gold. Contains around 250 black and white photographs held to the pages with corner tabs, accompanied by annotations identifying people and places. Some of the names that show up most frequently are Mitchell, Pantone, Kaplan, Castro, Belanger, and Reno, among others. There are many photos of men at inspection, having parties, hanging out in the barracks, playing volleyball, or just hanging out around the company area. There are also interesting photos of the depot with some of the men posing with unloading equipment. Some are travel photos with views of London, Paris (including lovely views from the Eiffel Tower), Le Champ de bataille de Verdun, and the home and church dedicated to Joan of Arc. One photo in the back of the album shows the U.S. Naval Ship, general Leroy Eltinge, which was a transport ship, and presumably took these fellas from the US to Europe. Photographs measure between 3 x 3" and 4.75 x 3.5" and are held to the pages with corner tabs, accompanied by annotations identifying places and people.
