Last panel of fold-out frontispiece loose but included, hinges loosening. 1903 Hard Cover. xxiii, [24]-706, [4] pp. 8vo. "A critical narrative of Burr's projected invasion of Mexico, his plans and preparations, tour of the West, the crisis on the frontier, treachery of Wilkinson, arrest of Burr, trial, etc. The material for the work was mainly compiled from original manuscripts and from newspapers of the period. Author made extensive researches, the field of investigation including the Mexican and Texas archives, records of British War Office, etc. Considerable important information was also acquired in the Mississippi Valley. Work generally accepted as authoritative on the subject, reversing conclusions of former writers, and discrediting the view that Burr ever planned a separation of the Western States from the Union.
