About This Item
Paris: Chez Bossange, Masson et Besson, 1802 (An X). Full Calf. Very Good. 17 by 10 cm. 12mo. viii, 451 pp. Nine plates, one of which is a folding and contains two global maps. These plates are lettered up to "K", with the folding map plate given as G and H. No "J" plate present but no evidence of removal, and we believe the book in fact contains all the plates that were initially there. This is a work that went through multiple editions, though, and other printings had both more and fewer plates. Much of the text is organized in a question and answer format, as was a common pedagogical technique in primers of the day. Geography is the most extensive topic, but as the title suggests, the work ranges over a wide range of scientific topics, as well as some of the arts. The contemporary calf has a small chip on the front board and considerable wear elsewhere but remains attractive and viable. Prize (Prix) marking in gilt on rear cover. A few leaves affected by light dampstaining, and some other scattered soiling.
