London: Hodder and Stoughton, 2004. [Intrigue] SIGNED FIRST EDITION. Octavo (24 x 16cm), pp.383; [1]. SIGNED by the author in black ink to the title page. Publisher's red cloth with black titles to spine, and purple endpapers. With the purple dust-jacket designed by gray318, priced at £18.99. A fine, as-new copy, carefully dark-stored by ourselves since publication. A theatrical masterstroke of tragi-comic writing, and a savage fable of the time of nine/eleven and the Iraq War. The friends are Ted Mundy, a British soldier's son born in 1947, in the newly independent Pakistan, and Sasha, the refugee son of an East German Lutheran pastor and his wife who sought sanctuary in the West. The two men meet first as students in the riot-torn West Berlin of the late sixties, again in the grimy looking-glass of Cold War espionage and, most terribly, in the modern world of terror, counter-terror and the war of lies.
