About This Item
Antwerp, Belgium: Editions Arcade and Fonds Mercator, 1974. Book. Very Good. Hardcover. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Second edition. Text is in English throughout. Black cloth with title in gilt on cream spine. Condition: Very good, binding sound, no inscriptions. Dustjacket condition: Good, with general shelfwear and a couple of small tears to jacket edges, including one 2cm.vertical repaired tear to top left of front of jacket. 315pp. Many beautiful tipped-in colour illustrations. This book gives an overview of 20th century abstract art in Flanders up to the date of publication in 1974. No important 20th century art movement had its birth in Belgium, but the country was still very connected; with de Stijl through Vantongerloo, with Dadaism through Joostens and Pansaers, with Cubism through Martha Donas, with futurism through Schmalzigaug, with surrealism through Magritte and Delvaux, and with expressionism through the Laethem school. A heavy book, will require extra postage charges if to be sent outside the UK.
