London: Printed for the Benefit of the Musical Fund, Sold By T. Payne & Son, G. Robinson, 1785. First edition, 1785, with the armorial bookplate of noted English music scholar and critic John Alexander Fuller Maitland on the front pastedown. Full calf leather with dark red spine label, gilt ruled spine, attached ribbon bookmark, 11.75" tall, [8], xvi, 56, 139, [1] pages. Includes 8 engravings, frontis plus 7 tissue-protected plates. Some old professional restoration of hinges, retaining original endpapers. Spine has surface cracking but is stable, edgewear to covers, firm text block, tissues heavily foxed but plates lightly to moderately foxed (frontis more heavily foxed), pages very clean with only a few scattered incidences of light foxing, endpapers foxed. Bookplate is printed in blue, there are no other names or markings.. First Edition. Hard Cover. Good. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall.
