New York: D. Van Nostrand, 1883. First edition. Hardcover. Very good. Thick large 8vo. 703pp followed by the errata page. Publisher' blue cloth blocked in gilt on the spine and in gilt and black on the upper board. Illustrated with four portraits on steel. Brown coated endpapers. The cloth is rubbed at edges and hinges, and the upper inner hinge is cracked but firm, else this is a very good copy.


Chronicles the organization in 1855, the service in Texas to the Canadian River in 1856-1861, War of the Rebellion, 1861-1865, Southern Reconstruction, 1866-1868, Service on the Plains, 1868-1871, Arizona and Apache Campaigns, 1872-1875, and Plains from Texas to Montana, 1875-1883.
