About This Item
Melbourne, Brunswick: Globe Press, 1986. Paperback large trade, very good condition, black & white photos & drawings, programs, pages lightly toned, faint foxing edges & few pages, minor bump top edge rear cover, minor edgewear. 216 pp. Valantyne Napier documents the fascinating lives of Australian vaudeville and variety acts. It is about the theatres, the agents, the special theatrical accommodation, the travel and the institutions which once served this very large commercial enterprise. Many of the best speciality acts were Australian and they toured the world taking their special skills to the beautiful theatres which were once found in every city. The author herself performed on the world circuits and her parents also toured the world with their very successful acts "Napier and Yvonne" and "The Spider and the Butterfly". A wonderful book about Australia's entertainment sector.
