About This Item

UK,8vo HB,minus dw/dj,1st edn.VG+. Ink Christian name written to front pastedown and an accidental crease to top corner's tip,an oblique-angled single, short crease from top edge towards the fore-edge,else bright, crisp, clean plain white endpapers.Publisher's generally clean,sharp-cornered,original green paper-covered boards, with capitalised,black-lettered AMERICAN MYSTERY lettering to publisher's printed, black ink colophon illustration of a deerstalker-hatted,meerschaum pipe smoking bloodhound to upper board's lower fore-edge corner; spine/backstrip dulled with capitalised, black-lettered title, other black-lettered author name, and publisher's thumbnail black ink printed illustrated colophon as front's,and capitalised, black-lettered publisher part name to foot of same, rear board plain and undecorated.Negligible shelf-wear, bumping, creasing to edges and corners – no nicks, tears or splits present.Top edges very lightly aged/toned with a pair of minimal blemishes, else virtually foxing-free,fore-edges similarly aged/toned with very minimal, faint, sporadic foxing spots, the lower edges with a black line towards the tailband vicinity; contents i.e text body, bright, tight, solid+sound - near foxing-free and no dog-ear reading creases to any pages' corner tips, appears unread other than my own collation.UK, 8vo HB,minus w/dj,1st edn,7-172pp [paginated] includes 19 chapters; plus [unpaginated] half-title with synopsis and to its reverse alist of author's 3 titles,a title page and a title separator page witha blank reverse and to the rear,2pp blanks. Visually the exterior appearance is more than acceptable, and particularly internally, the book is also in a near exceptional condition/state of preservation and presentation for a book of its 60 year-old age.It is only the faults described and missing dw/dj,that prevents a slightly higher overall grading.Despite them,it really is still an exceptional example for its cleanliness and brightness to collect for this genre, especially as these titles under this publisher are now out-of-print as publisher is no longer trading, ceasing in 1967. Chronologically, authors 5th published title of 8 and the 2nd out of 4,featuring Frank Richmond. The other series featured Eric Marsden. A month before, Vera had found The Dummy suffering from amnesia and loss of voice, and had mothered him ever since. She wanted private detective Frank Richmond to find out who he was and who was trying to kill him. The Dummy had been recognised at a night club, and the day after Frank went there to ask questions, the hat-check girl was found murdered. Coincidence? Frank didn't think so.
