About This Item

1978. Academic Press. London. 1978. First edition. DW. 588 pages. With a lovely handwritten letter from Andrew Lock, on the University of Lancaster headed paper, to Mr. Evans, his former Biology teacher. The letter explains how he finds one of the great satisfactions of teaching is seeing how his students get on in the world afterwards and feeling he may have fulfilled some purpose. He presents this book on language to Mr. Evans, stating that it was, "in no small way a result of your efforts teaching me Biology a few years ago; and I'm very pleased to acknowledge my debts by sending you this book - even if it is not quite up your street." A clean and sound copy in a wrapper that is worn at extremities.
