About This Item
Patrick Stephens Limited, Wellingborough, Northants, 1979. Reprint. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. B/w. photo. endpapers. No area of the British Isles has seen as much air activity as East Anglia. Almost since the birth of flying there has been something in the air over the eastern counties. With so much flat land strategically placed it is little wonder that the region has contained more airfields than any other of comparable size. Indeed, at one time airfield circuits were so close that some overlapped. Within the five counties there were well over lOO airfields at the peak of activity in the 1939-1945 war. From them was woven a story unparalleled in the history of military aviation. This book sets out to record concisely the activity that took place from these airfields and outline the squadrons and units which flew from them, the whole punctuated by some personal memories. It does not set out to be a catalogue of runway lengths or hangar sizes; more is it concerned with what took place and from where, especially during the busy wartime days. Then, as many as 5,000 flights were being made daily over East Anglia. . Size: Octavo (standard book size). 232 pages. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact.
