Following on from his "Night of the New Moon" this book begins with the author's release from the POW camp in Java in August 1945 and him watching his fellow POW's disappear on their way to Batavia and home whilst he, as the most senior British Army Officer stayed behind at the request of the Japanese. So overnight he went from POW to oversighting the Japanese in their treatment [post war] of ex-prisoners and internees. In this process he built up a remarkable trust with the Japanese and his work laid the basis of future British policy in Java. Robust, professional packaging and tracking provided for all parcels. .
