NY, Printed and Published by H. Durell. Hard Cover. Three volumes: 316, 308, 304 p. The French original (Cioranescu 39953-55) was first published 1715-1735. Smollett's translationwas first published in four volumes, London, 1749. Includes 13 of 24 plates (missing 2, 4, 5, 6, 8-14). Offset browning from engravings on facing pages. American Imprints 16884. Bound in full contemporary leather. The New York binder, showing off his craft and his familiarity with London and Paris styles, has fully ornamented the spines and used several techniques on the boards. Spines are worn at extremities; hinges cracked. Original endpapers stained, wrinkled. Stock#OB002.
