About This Item
Inscribed by Margaret M. Lothrop, daughter of author Margaret Sidney (pseudonym of Harriett Mulford Stone Lothrop). Harriett Lothrop ran her husbands publishing company, D. Lothrop Company, after her husband's death, when young daughter Margaret was just nine. She later purchased The Wayside country house, creating a center for literary life. At the age of 34 she sent short stories to a Boston children's magazine. Two stories were quite popular, and Daniel, the then editor, requested more, birthing Five Little Peppers and it's sequels. In 1881, the year of their marriage, the first novel was printed. From 1892 to 1897, Harriet was busy running Lothrop publishing, thus creating a gap in the notable Peppers series. The dedication by her daughter is lengthy and intimate, a lovely walk through all little Peppers, as she imagines them at mother's knee and elbow. Signed at The Wayside, Concord, 1948. Bright cloth in very good illustrated dust jacket. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; All shipments through USPS insured Priority Mail.
