Printed for the Author by The Collins Press, Boston, 1894. 1st Edition. . Hardcover. Fine/Dust Jacket Included. Near Fine copy, dust jacket not issued. Remarkably preserved copy of first edition. Covers and pages are crisp, intact and unmarked. Tight bind. Inside of the book is in Fine condition. Traces of residue on back cover, visible only as a glitter against light. Bound in brown cloth with gilt lettering on front cover & spine. Gilt is crisp and 100 percent intact. Tall 8vo.; 308 pp.; Frontispiece portrait; numerous text illustrations. Excellent memoir by Williams (b. 1824) recounting his experiences aboard whaling ships in the South Pacific, stopovers in Fiji, the gold rush in Australia, joining the 1849 California Gold Rush, his return to Australia, the Australian Gold Camps, and then back to the gold camps near Carson, and a new gold strike in British Columbia.
