About This Item
London: Faber and Faber Limited, 1947. First English Edition [no impression indicated; presumed first]. Cloth. Fine/Fine. SIGNED by the Author on the front free endpaper adding his address [possibly Author's own copy], small 8vo (7 1/2" x 5 1/8"), red cloth with gold lettering on spine, archival mylar-protected pictorial and impressionistic dust jacket (unclipped: price 8s. 9d.), 336 pages. William Saroyan (1908 - 1981) was an Armenian-American novelist, playwright, and short story writer. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 1940, and in 1943 won the Academy Award for Best Story for the film The Human Comedy. After the studio rejected his 240-page treatment, he turned it into a novel, The Human Comedy (1943). Saroyan is regarded as one of the greatest writers of the 20th century.

The Adventures of Wesley Jackson is Saroyan's strongly anti-war novel largely based on his own experiences. The author felt that he had been pressed into the service, and that his freedom had been curtailed. The U.S. Army
reacted strongly to his near-treasonous expressions.

SIGNED by Author with additional entries about his residence: REMARKABLY WELL PRESERVED & SCARCE FINELY DUST JACKETED COPY of his Second Novel dressed in a Picasso-esque & unclipped Dust Jacket! Apart from Saroyan's own name & address, no other marks.
