About This Item
London: Robinson, 1658. Hardcover. Good. Two books bound as one. Advice to a Son (sixth edition) (1658) and Political Reflections upon the Government of the Turks and Discourses on Machiavelli, The King of Sweden, Martin Luther et al. (1662). Both published by Thomas Robinson. A courtier during the English Restoration, Osborn found fame for his book of advice for his son. A somewhat controversial text for its misogynist tone, it was parodied in his life time, questioned by Swift and Johnson and even denounced for atheistic undertones. Stout 18mo. Full calf. decorated initials. Marks and scratches. Slight loss to top of spine. Bookplate, owner's inscription. Tanning. Occasional small tears but no loss. Binding is firm and contents clean overall. Good.
