Nine units titled Basic Aeronautics, Meteorology, Navigation, Rules of Flight (with Rocketry Supplement), High Speed Aerodynamics, Physiology of Flight, Man in Space, History of Aviation, and Opportunities. The author was an accomplished teacher and writer. His teaching career included choral and instrumental music, aero-science, biology, math, and photography. He wrote a 700 page aero-science textbook used in colleges throughout the U.S. He taught Physical Science at Biola University, in La Mirada, CA, for ten years. He has been the recipient of numerous Aerospace Education awards, and the 1989 recipient of Governor Ronald Reagan's Certificate of Recommendation. His aero-science students learned how to re-cover airplane wings, and one of their projects, the tail section of a vintage M-1 Mailplane, hangs in the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, D. C. This is a marvellous snapshot in time that presents the then state-of-the-art, state of knowledge, and state of practice of Aerospace and Aviation at the start of the last quarter of the Twentieth century. Among the topics coverer are Bernoulli's Principle, Venturi Tube, Thrust, Drag, Aircraft Construction, Aircraft Structure, Power Plants, Stability, Performance, Flight Instruments, Helicopters, Weather, Navigation Aids, Federal Aviation Regulations,Rocketry, Aerodynamics, Supersonic, Spaceflight, Guidance System, Sounding Rockets, Unmanned Vehicles, Air Shows, Aviation Records, Transcontinental Flight, Armed Services, and Airlines. From the NASA Engineering and Safety Center: The Aerosciences Discipline encompasses a range of engineering activities associated with the prediction and characterization of atmospheric flight and fluid dynamics. Prediction of aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic performance for aircraft and spacecraft operating in earth and other planetary atmospheres is the primary responsibility of the discipline. This performance includes development of aerodynamic and aerothermodynamic databases for vehicle flight performance simulations, propulsion system operation and interactions with the vehicle, aerodynamic heating due to high speed flight and jet and rocket plume impingement, aerodynamic loads transmitted to structures, aeroacoustic loads transmitted to structures and other subsystems, and aero/structural and aero/controls interactions.
