Ward, Lock & Co., Limited, London And Melbourne, No date. Edition Unstated. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/No Dust Jacket. Illustrator: Harry Rountree. Preface. Colour illustrated end pages, both different, coloured frontispiece and the 29 coloured and 18 sepia illustrations within the text have all been drawn by Harry Rountree. Dark red coloured cloth covered boards with gilt coloured titles and embossed illustration to the front panel and back strip. Red coloured tint to the top text edge. Title says it all. Softening and rubbing to the back strip edges which also shows rubbing along its length and either side. Bumping, rubbing and slight fraying of the book corners with the underlying board visible to the lower corners. There has been rubbing and loss of colour to the book edges with some stains and marks present to the front and rear cover. Very light age toning of the text block edges along with some very faint foxing. Age toning and foxing to the pages. Gift inscription to the verso of the frontispiece. Synopsis

Aesop, known only for the genre of fables ascribed to him, was a slave in the mid-sixth century BC in Greece. He is assumed to have written many of these curious moral parables, and they have been added to and translated into many languages since they were first collected.
