Five raised bands to spine and gold decoration within the compartments and around the edges of the covers. Marbled endpapers and marbling to textblock edges. Condition: Good, with light shelfwear to covers and rubbing to edges of spine. Rear cover has a faint waterstain, not affecting book in any way. Binding sound, text clean. School prize label (Amersham Grammar School) fixed to front pastedown. Previous owners name on half-title. 248pp. Eight b/w plates including frontispiece portrait of General Gordon. .

Featuring a portrait frontispiece of General Gordon and several futher plates. With ink stamp of Bickers and Son, Leicester Square to verso of front free-endpaper. In an armorial full tree-calf binding. Externally, very attractive despite some shelfwear. The front board is detached, held by an amateur sellotape repair. The rear board is held by one cord only. Part of the backstrip has come away and is preserved within. Internally, firmly bound, bright and very clean throughout. Ink inscription dated 1905 to verso of front free-endpaper. Overall: GOOD ONLY with a near fine interior. Good Only
