"The story of a Grecian faun who, after becoming the lover of Aphrodite, is endowed with immortality and the power to enter the human body, male or female, of his choice. From an idyllic marriage to a Cretan maid, the faun moves to Egypt, where he takes part in the cruel intrigues and orgiastic splendors of that magnificent court." The first novel by this author who was born in New Orleans and returned there after many years studying music and singing in Europe and Hollywood. The striking dustjacket design is by the Louisiana artist Caroline Wogan Durieux (1896-1989), a New Orleans native of Creole descent and who returned to New Orleans after years in Cuba and Mexico, assuming in1938 the directorship of the WPA Federal Art Project in New Orleans, where Arthur MacArthur was working at the time this was published. 290 pp.
