It’s this very real consideration that leads to Karl Menninger’s 1938 classic book, Man Against Himself. In it, he seeks to expose his experiences with people who choose to harm themselves – through suicide and other ways. His belief is that our best defense against self-destructiveness is to bravely expose the inner thoughts of those troubled souls who choose self-harm so we may design interventions against them. With case histories that are both human and dramatic, the author shows how often men's bad luck, failure, and acute illnesses result from a subconscious will toward self-defeat. He demonstrated how various diseases and misfortunes resulting from the self-destructive impulse may be cured. A clean very presentable copy in a Brodart mylar jacket.
