About This Item
[New Mexico: 1939-40]. Oblong quarto souvenir album (8" x 12"); 20 leaves, of which 11 used. Contents include 48 original photographs and two printed postcards. Most of the photos are small-format Brownie snapshots, 2-3/4" x 2"; a few larger (up to 3" x 5"); two are captioned in the image "Vaughn, New Mexico, Nov. 23, 1940." Slight toning to album edges, but contents generally fine.
An evocative album of images recording the career of an unidentified C.C.C. recruit in the American southwest. The snapshots, all original amateur images, show scenes of corpsmen at work and play, on horseback, in pickup trucks, etc., all against a series of arid backgrounds. C.C.C. records on-line identify Co. 3349 as having been based in Ft. Sommer [Sumner?] New Mexico, engaged primarily in work with the Soil Conservation Service. Two of the photographs here appear to depict large farm ponds, these possibly being projects completed by the company.
