About This Item
London: Oxford University Press, 1988. First Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/Very Good +. The interior of the book is crisp and clean, showing no marks or wear. The paper has tanned very slightly at the edges. The blue covers are fresh, showng next to no wear; the gilt spine lettering is still bright. The dust jacket is in excellent condition -- it is not price-clipped and shows no wear. The jacket is now in a protective mylar cover, and looks great. Synopsis: Alfreda Abbot, a young girl, and Norbert S. Quire, an unknown actor, each lose their voices on the same day, and have to collect them at the Lost Voice Office. Unfortunately, they are each given the wrong voice. Now, when Alfreda opens her mouth, out comes a deep man's voice speaking all sorts of long words -- handy for frightening the school bully, but it puts off all her friends and even her dog. As for Mr. Quire, he goes to an important audition and instead of reciting the great, tragic lines he's learnt, out pops a girl's voice talking nonsense. Alfreda wants her voice back, but with his new voice, Mr Quire has become quite a successful comedian, and won't give up easily. What is Alfreda to do?
