About This Item

Croatia: Amaranthine Books, 2021. Limited Edition . Hardcover. New. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Mazinjanin, Damir. Sumptuous limited edition of Lewis Carroll's classic 19th-century children's stories: 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Through the Looking-Glass, and what Alice Found There'. Published by the Croatian fine press, Amaranthine Books, in a limitation of only 260 copies. Signed by Marko Matijasevic (creative concept) and Damir Mazinjanin (illustrations). 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Removed from publisher's shrink wrap but as new o/w and will be sent in publisher's protective packaging. This copy is number 109 and comes with the 'swag' that was only available with books purchased directly from Amaranthine: Alice-themed playing cards and notebook (sealed in publisher's shrink wrap). 'Alice' is draped in luxurious, blood-orange, textured fabric, featuring intricately woven illustrations on the covers, and it comes in its own handmade and fully enclosed slipcase. Despite its delicate looks, the material is very durable and water-repellent. The illustrations on the covers were created using a jacquard technique, which means that hundreds upon hundreds of small threads were woven in order to produce the optical illusion. Also, each cover was placed on the book block by hand. As for the slipcase, it uses the same type of fabric as the covers and it boasts copper foil stamping of the title on its side. Creative concept for this edition is based on the idea of putting the reader into Alice's shoes. All twenty of Damir Mazinjanin's illustrations are from Alice's point of view; each pulling you a bit further into the story and showing the plot from a unique angle. Besides these twenty, of which two are full-spread illustrations, there are certain illustrated bonuses, like small chapter illustrations and an illustrated surprise that can be found in the middle. This surprise is placed there since the two sequels are fused into one book, each beginning on one cover and ending in the middle. This is also a small tribute to the Looking-Glass world, so it seemed fitting for this edition. Another thing that heavily influenced the creative concept was Lewis Carroll's love for math and logic, which he loved to bend, twist and break in his writing. That was channeled through the use of optical illusions on the covers, which do exactly that kind of thing to logic in the real world. We wanted the slipcase to completely protect the book, so it's fully capped, and hides a small surprise when you look into its cap. Also, with each copy comes a transparent Cheshire Cat bookmark, should you need any guidance on your reading adventures. This is a truly unique and extremely tactile version of 'Alice' which was limited to 250 copies, sold out quickly at the publisher, and is scarce on the secondary market. A must have for collectors. Heavy/oversize book. U.K. postage at default charge but overeseas buyers may be asked for extra postage. All orders are professionally packed, tracked and/or signed-for, and insured.

Synopsis

Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There , tell the story of a young girl in a fantasy world filled with peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The classic tale of literary nonsense takes the reader on an exploration of logic and absurdities. The Alice books — sometimes combined or referred to with the abbreviated title Alice in Wonderland — have been translated into at least 97 languages with over a hundred different editions. The books have also been adapted numerous times into films (both live-action and cartoon), plays, and musicals.
