About This Item
CARROLL, Lewis. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Illustrated by Maraja. London: W.H. Allen [1958]. 4to, 111pp. Color pictorial boards. Color illustrations on nearly every page. Spine ends and corners a bit worn, edges lighly rubbed, slight soiling to boards, else an internally clean, tight copy.
First Maraja-illustrated edition, UK issue, having been printed in Milan by the artist's publisher for the UK market. Libico Maraja was an Italian illustrator, perhaps most famous for his illustrated edition of Pinocchio, who created wonderful illustrated editions of many of the classics of children's literature. This gorgeous edition of Carroll's classic tale is bursting with color and motion and is a true delight for any fans of Wonderland.
Synopsis
Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel, Through the Looking Glass and What Alice Found There , tell the story of a young girl in a fantasy world filled with peculiar, anthropomorphic creatures. The classic tale of literary nonsense takes the reader on an exploration of logic and absurdities. The Alice books — sometimes combined or referred to with the abbreviated title Alice in Wonderland — have been translated into at least 97 languages with over a hundred different editions. The books have also been adapted numerous times into films (both live-action and cartoon), plays, and musicals.
