A story told by Forester to his young son at dinner time as a way to get the child to eat because he was heart-sick for his absent mother. The story is about a little boy who finds a dragon and brings him home. Robert Lawson created great b&w pictures for the tale, appearing as full page as well has textual and chapter heads. This was Forester's first book for children and it is very difficult to find in the first edition; desirable both for the text as well as Lawson's artwork.. Stated First Edition (American). Previous owners neat 3 line name and date (Juy 1872) on the half title page. A Very good clean copy in recent binding of full red Morocco leather binding. Spine with raised bands, each with vertical gilt ruled lines, the compartments decorated with gilt designs & lettered in gilt. Single gilt ruled border on bevelled edged boards, decorated with floral corner pieces. All edges gilt. Yellow endpapers. Some rubbing to the corners and spine but overall a very good attractive copy of this early edition.

One of 1000 hand-numbered copies printed in the Riccardi Fount on handmade Riccardi Paper. Fine leather binding of recent full deep red morocco. Spine with five raised bands, ruled in gilt. Compartments ruled, lettered and decorated with March Hare and Playing cards motifs in gilt, with floral gilt surrounds. Ruled gilt border on boards. Top edge gilt, others untrimmed. A bright and clean copy of this lovely edition, beautifully printed on fine quality hand made paper and in a decorative leather binding. ----- This edition was published by arrangement with Macmillan and Company using Carroll's revised text of 1896. The wonderful Tenniel illustrations are printed from fresh electros taken from the original wood-blocks, with four being slightly enlarged from the original block designs.

Eveleigh Nash. London. (No date). 1907. FIRST EDITION. Large 8vo. (9.7 x 8.1 inches). Illustrated throughout with 86 line drawings by Blackwood. Publishers grey paper covered boards with red lettering and black illustration to the front board. A few small ink spots to the spine but, importantly the spine is still completely present and in very good condition which is uncommon on this title. Some offsetting to the blank endpapers but overall a clean and tidy copy of this scarce book.

Some minor fading to the very top of the cloth on the boards but overall a near fine, highly attractive copy of this Victorian classic.

First printings of these facsimile editions of the original first editions of 1866 and 1872. Bound in publishers delux leather bindings of full deep red morocco, reproducing the original bindings. Triple gilt ruled borders on boards and circular illustrations to the centre of the panels. Spines with ruled lines to the top and bottom and lettering, all in gilt. Black coated endpapers. All edges gilt. Aside from a tiny rub to the top of the spine on Through the Looking glass these are in fine condition. Macmillan issued these two facsimile editions in 1984 in cloth bindings and these much scarcer leather versions.
