Spine faintly sunned. Corners and spine tips lightly rubbed. Gilt top edge. Previous owner's ex-libris on the front pastedown. Most pages throughout the book are in excellent condition, clean and bright. Seventy colour plates with tissue guards. Four pages of publisher's advertising at the rear. A beautiful copy. Historian and mountaineer W. Martin Conway's descriptions of one of the most stunning mountain ranges in the world continues to be engaging well over a century after they were first written. Whilst Conway often focused on mountaineering expeditions, in this volume he describes the beautiful Alpine glaciers and explains how the mountains were created. He also details pastures, peaks and volcanos. The watercolour print illustrations throughout add to the loveliness of the book. 1904
