About This Item

Amazing Stories, Vol. 10, No. 5, August, 1935 is one issue of a monthly pulp science fiction magazine published by Teck Publications, Inc in the 1930s. This issue measures approximately 7 x 10 inches and contains 144 pages bound in paper covers. The pages af the magazine are tanned, but the text and illustrations are clear and easily read. The covers are intact, with chipping along the edges. The magazine is in overall good condition.

The pictures accompanying this description show the front cover of the magazine, the Title/table of Contents page, and three 2-page spreads of the opening pages of stories.

Amazing Stories is an American science fiction magazine launched in April 1926 by Hugo Gernsback's Experimenter Publishing. It was the first magazine devoted solely to science fiction. Before Amazing, science fiction stories had made regular appearances in other magazines, including some published by Gernsback, but Amazing helped define and launch a new genre of pulp fiction. In August 1931, Amazing was acquired by Teck Publications, a subsidiary of Bernarr Macfadden's Macfadden Publications. Macfadden's deep pockets helped insulate Amazing from the financial strain caused by the Great Depression. The schedule of Amazing Stories began to slip, but Amazing did not miss an issue in the early 1930s. However, it became unprofitable to publish over the next few years. Circulation dropped to little more than 25,000 in 1934, and in October 1935 it switched to a bimonthly schedule. [Wikipedia]

About Pages For Sages

Pages For Sages has been in the business of buying and selling rare and used books, ephemera, and other unusual items for over forty years. We have long depended on book fairs, printed catalogs, auctions, and the like to support the business. Now, in our later years (ages 90 and 92) we are taking this step to display a catalog of inventory on the Biblio web site for your consideration. The number of our listings will grow as we continue the process of adding items from our inventory - please come back from time to time to find additional offerings.
