Philadelphia: J.B. Lippincott and Company, 1875. New Edition. Hardcover. Good Plus. Folio, [10 1/2x 7 1/4 inches]. Decorated green cloth with spine titles in gilt, geometric design in gilt and black with black rules and decoration. Corners bumped and chafing (perhaps gnawing?) to front and top beveled edges, some frays to top of spine. Cover gilt and decorations bright. All edges gilt. Presentation card from the Johns Hopkins Club tipped into front endpaper, bookplate. x,210 pages. 68 woodcut illustrations by the author, including many full page. Text bright and clean, binding tight. The expedition was sponsored by the Brazillian Government to ascertain the feasibility of establishing a rail line.
