While Bassompierre's military exploits in the service of Henri IV earned him great honour and distinction, as a diplomatist, his career was a failure. This collection of accounts relates his successive unsucccessful diplomatic missions to Spain (1621; where he was responsible for signing the Treaty of Madrid), Switzerland (1625), and England (1626).
