London: Vizetelly & Co.. Third edition with nearly 400 engravings. Volume I slightly shakened, xix, 314 pp with 14 pages of ads. Vol. II is the Second edition, 1882, xii, 326 pp and 1 pg. of ads. Foxing on endpprs. Uniform blue gilt lettered, gilt pictorial bindings depicting African Americans with two top hatted white "gentlemen." Author was supporter of the South: "My heart was with the South because I came on my mother's side of a West Indian family - and a slave-owning family - ruined by the Abolition of Slavery in the British Colonies; and although I know perfectly well that I was altogether wrong in what I wrote politically concerning 'America in the Midst of War,' my heart is still in the South." . Good Plus. Hardcover. 1883.
