New York, NY: The New York Public Library, 1937. First edition. Oversized softcover with additional paper dust wrapper. . Very Good. Thick quarto (slightly oversized). in blue paper dustwrapper. Head of dustwrapper spine missing a 2 inch by 1.5 inch piece. Faded slightly, more so at edges and spine. Very small tear in head of spine of book, which is faded a bit where exposed. Slight wear to edges and corners of covers. Some yellowing at edges of text block. 539 p. w/4 illustrations, principal works consulted, list of catalogues, Anglo-american book auctions, index of owners and more. OF particular note is the essay (not really an introduction) on the History of Book Auctions in America by Clarence Brigham. Reprinted with additions from the Bulletin of the New York Public Library 1935-6. The standard reference on American auctions, and a major accomplishment in American bibliography its own right.
