London: Archibald Constable & Co, 1900. Lieutenant Colonel Laurence Austine Waddell (1854-1938) British explorer. Waddell studied Buddhism and learned the Tibetan language visiting Tibet several times secretly, in disguise. He was the cultural consultant on the 1903-1904 British invasion of Tibet led by Colonel Sir Francis Edward Younghusband. CONDITION Red cloth has wear to extremities, pp xvi 452 with humerous, illus, photo plate, figural illus, 4 maps in tect and a fold out to rear. Mostly bright and crisp copy, name to front paste down, front ep has been removed, very odd finger mark and crease cnr. OVERWEIGHT. 2nd Edition. Hard Cover. Good/No Jacket. Illus. by A D McCormick. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
