SECOND EDITION, WITH EXTRA WORKS, 1751, ex library copy (Birmingham Medical Institute) with small pale stamps to title page and plates. 4to, approximately 270 x 220 mm, 10½ x 8½ inches, 16 engraved plates, part folding, pages: [16], 1-108, [2], 1-58, 1-78, the prelims include imprimatur leaf, blank leaf and the final advert leaf which has been misplaced and inserted in the Preface, attractively rebound in full modern calf, contrasting gilt lettered labels, extra gilt spine between raised bands, blind and gilt decoration to covers, new marbled endpapers. The first 8 folding plates (Anatomy of a Pygmy) repaired on folds, 2 with tiny loss to image, 2 plates have brown stain to inner margins not affecting image, edges of plates dusty, the plates to the other works are without repairs and in good order. Title page foxed, foxing and pale age-browning throughout, paper fault has affected 1 word but easily legible and the word has been pencilled in the margin, 1 plate just slightly protruding from text block, other occasional small faults of no consequence, otherwise a good copy. First published in 1699 with the title: Orang-Outang, Sive Homo Sylvestris: or, the Anatomy of a Pygmie.
