First edition hardcover, with dust jacket, published by John Hopkins University Press, 1967. A collection of essays on ancient medicine, by the German scholar of the History of Medicine. Six of the essays included here are published in English for the first time. Subjects include; Hippocrates and the Hippocratic Oath, The Methodists, Eryximachus, Empiricism, Dietetics in Antiquity, Andreas Vesalius, Syndenham, and Professional Ethics in Ancient Greece. 498 page, with Index, 6-1/2" X 9-1/4". The dust jacket has been protected by a clear, removable cover. Jacket has been price clipped at the top right corner of the front flap. Jacket has two minor chips on the head of the spine panel. Back panel of the jacket has a minor closed tar at the bottom, edge, about 1/4", and some light smudge marks from use. Sturdy Buckram cloth covered boards, with the title on the spine. Cover boards are flat, the corners are not bumped or worn. This is a remainder copy, with a single red dot on the down edge of the text block - photo attached. No former ownership marks, no writing on the text pages. Edges of the text block are relatively lean, with some very faint age tanning dots to the top edge. Very sturdy, high quality printing as usual from John Hopkins, the book weighs more than 2 pounds. Sewn binding is tight, all pages are intact. This copy is not a remainder, not a library discard.
