About This Item

Cleveland: The World Publishing Company, 1961. 1st Edition Assumed 2nd. Hardcover. Good +/Good. B&W illustrations by Alberto Beltran; color photos as well. CONDITION: UNREAD c. 1961 The World Publishing Company large hardcover (decorated boards) & dust jacket (in mylar cover), first edition, assumed 2nd printing. The book has problems, but IS unread and the interior is clean and tight. The problem is with the corners and edges of the boards (see or send for the scans) and with the dust jacket which has extreme edge wear top and bottom spine and at corners and is covered in mylar cover to prevent further erosion. I have done some small cosmetic work on the bottom edges of the boards, but it's strictly cosmetic and the corners are frayed. Questions encouraged and answered. CONTENT: "An exotic panorama - lavishly illustrated and pulsing with life - of the Aztec, Maya, and Inca civilizations. A major work of archaeology, anthropology, and history, by one of America's foremost archaeological historians. Here are tales of ruthless conquest. Here are accounts of imperial princes and their stately cities, from the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan to the Inca fortress of Machu Picchu. And here are the strange and wonderful beliefs, customs, dances, and religious rites of three mature American civilizations that time and the hand of man were almost blot out of human memory. The importance of a book like this is how and what was discovered and how it was analyzed, and how much is still relevant today after 60+ years. 621 pages; 2 lbs.
