About This Item

New York: E.P. Dutton, 1981. Book Club (BCE/BOMC). Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good. 20x20x20. Book club edition. Left flap creased, top of jacket edges lightly worn. 1981 Hard Cover. xiii, 434 pp. 8vo. When Maurice Halleck, a minister of justice accused of corruption, dies an apparent suicide in a car accident, his children, believing he was betrayed by their mother and her lover, seek revenge.

Synopsis

Joyce Carol Oates's Angel of Light is about the Halleck family in Washington in 1980.  The father, Maurice, is found dead from an apparent suicide - but his children, Kirsten and Owen are certain that it was their mother and her new lover that did him in. This free-form book sometimes uses stream of consciousness and jumpy timelines to increase the sense of mystery and confusion as Kirsten and Owen exact any revenge they can.
